Manderino Library Book Club--May Selection

The next meeting of the Manderino Library Book Club will be on Tuesday, May 16, 2006. The afternoon group will not meet. Instead, the afternoon and evening groups will meet at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Beth Baxter. Please bring a covered dish. Questions? Please give Beth or me a call.

Joan Drudi, a Cal U alumna, will be leading our book discussion on Pearl Buck's The Good Earth.

In addition, we will be picking the books for next year's reading season. Already I have some suggestions from the group. Some of the authors and titles to consider are:

Isaac's Storm: A Man, A Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History by Erik Larson
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Faiths of the Founding Fathers by David Lynn Holmes
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein
The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History by John M. Barry
March of the Penguins by Luc Jacquet and Jerome Maison
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion [National Book Award--Nonfiction, 2005]
Marley and Me by John Grogan
The Secret History (1992) or The Little Friend (2004) by Donna Tartt
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
March: A Novel by Geraldine Brooks [Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 2006]
The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis

Looking forward to seeing you at Beth's home on the evening of May 16, 2006.
