Gallery of Fine Arts Exhibit, July 24 - August 5

Photographs showing many aspects of California University of Pennsylvania over the past three years will be on display at the Manderino Library’s Fine Arts Gallery from July 24 through August 5. An opening reception will be held on Monday, July 24, from 2 to 4 p.m.Cal U photojournalist Greg Sofranko will exhibit both color and black and white images chosen from an estimated 20,000 digital photographs he has taken during his three-year tenure with the university.Sofranko took his first picture of five elk in a field one early summer morning in Benezette, Pa., in 1988 and “got the bug” ever since. This upcoming show will be the first time his work has been exhibited.Titled “A Day in the Life at California University,” Sofranko’s exhibit will contain a variety of images of Cal U, ranging from sports to general features. Included in these will be Sofranko’s interpretation of last April’s annual alumni-varsity football scrimmage and the last two pre-school graduation ceremonies on campus at The Toddler Patch daycare facility.

Located on the third floor of the Manderino Library, the Gallery of Fine Arts will be open from noon to 2 p.m. on Mondays (2-4 p.m. on July 24), Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays and Friday’s during Sofranko’s exhibit, along with special hours on Saturday, August 5, from noon to 4 p.m. The Gallery will resume its normal hours of operation this fall.
