Louis L. Manderino Library New Books -- RSS Feeds

Louis L. Manderino Library provides the following RSS feeds for our users so they can easily obtain information about new books added to our collections. RSS feeds for specific Library of Congress subject classifications and specific Library Collections are listed below.

What is an RSS feed?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a way to publicize updates from web pages by pushing the new information to a user via an RSS feed. You can learn a lot more about RSS from this Wikipedia article on RSS To use RSS feeds, you first need an RSS feed reader. Following are brief directions for using Microsoft Outlook 2007 as your feed reader. RefWorks, the Library's bibliographic management program, also offers a feed reader feature.

How can I put an RSS feed into Outlook?
· First, click on the Mail icon on the lower left hand side to make sure you bring up the
"Mail Folders" on the left side of Outlook.
· Then, navigate down to RSS Feeds.
· Right click on RSS Feeds and select "Add a New RSS Feed..."
· It will bring up this window:

· Type or paste into this box the feed URL you want (see below). For example, I want all new books from Computer Science beginning with the Library of Congress classification letters, QA. So I type in this URL: http://library.bloomu.edu/cgi-bin/cupdbnewrss.cgi?QA and click "Add".
· Repeat to add more feeds.

Then, to see what new books the Library has, click on the RSS Feeds folder in your Outlook mailbox and select the New Books subfolder. A list of new books by title (with links into our catalog, PILOT) will appear in your mailbox.

This is the standard format for an Louis L. Manderino Library New Books RSS feed URL:

· http://library.bloomu.edu/cgi-bin/cupdbnewrss.cgi?X (where 'X' represents the Library of Congress Classification letter(s) or a specific Library Collection)

Following is a list of New Books RSS feed URLs by Library of Congress Classification letters. To view subclasses, click on the link for the letter. For example, click on the letter 'Q' for Science to obtain the classification letters for Chemistry: 'QD'.

Manderino Library Book Club--April 2008 Selection

"Jumping backward and forward in time, le Carre reveals the history of a friendship in the context of a lifetime of commitment gone sour: student radicalism in Berlin during the '60s; active spying for the West during the waning years of the cold war; and, finally, a parting of the ways, with Sasha continuing to search for the revolution of his dreams while Teddy finds a separate peace. But Iraq and a reunion with his friend reignite Teddy's fervor, paving the way for the inevitable tragedy. Yes, le Carre uses Teddy as a mouthpiece for some strong political opinions (the U.S. is described as a ‘hyperpower that thinks it can treat the rest of the world as its allotment’), but the novel never becomes the author's soapbox. The human story remains paramount, even if the chilling message is that human stories don't stand much of a chance in the world as we find it.” Ott, Bill. Booklist, 12/1/2003, p. 626.
